Tips and drills
This page contains some articles and diagrams as well as some video of various drills. The key to getting better is practice, so even if you go to practice on a regular basis, you still need to spend time on your own practicing and getting better. Hopefully, these following tips and drills will help you do that!
Some guidelines for working out on your own:
Whether you are a big or a guard, a long time player or just a rookie, you should always follow some basic guidelines when working out on your own.
1.) Always let someone else know where you are and how long you plan on doing it!
2.) Stay hydrated!
3.) Have some kind of general idea or plan what you are going to do for that day. One of the keys to improving is repetition. Don't go into a gym with the idea that you are going to shoot 500 shots, but then have each shot you take be different. If you want to work on fade aways, try to get at least 25 repetitions of the fade away shot you are working on, then move on to another shot or move.
4.) Everyone needs to work on ball handling and shooting, not just guards!!! So always make sure that is a part of your workout or warm up.
5.) Practice at game speed!!! If you practice below game speed, your body will only be used to operating at the speed at which you practiced.
6.) Practice perfection. Do not relax your standards when working out on your own. Stay as low on your own as if you had a coach there telling you to stay low. Work on the details and do not let yourself slide. HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE!!!!!!
