Season information:

Regular Season:

The regular basketball season as defined by the UHSAA lasts from the first week of November up until the first week of March when the state tournament occurs. Following that time is a four week period of "dead time". During dead time, coaches may not work with their teams in any way. During the regular season, practice will be held almost every day that there is no game or no state mandated moratorium (Christmas / New Year's). Practices during the season typically run in two different blocks, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Practice will almost always be between one of those two times. Saturdays will typically be reserved for open gym time. We do not practice on Sundays unless we have a game the following day. All practices and games during the regular season are considered mandatory, open gym time is strongly encouraged, but not always mandatory.

Offseason:

The offseason begins four weeks after the end of the regular season. None of the activities offered during the offseason are considered mandatory, but participation is high encouraged. During the offseason, we like to stress a few of the following points . . .

Work on and develop individual skills, especially in those areas you might be weak.

Increase your physical strength and cardiovascular ability (stay in shape!)

Shoot, Shoot, Shoot, Shoot!! Games aren't won if you can't put the ball in the hole!

Take advantage of any opportunity available to play as a team in tournaments or camps.

Try to go to a good individual skills camp.

Typically, we offer the following offseason opportunities . . .

1.) Open gym and individual skills time - take advantage of coming in to lift weights, work on your shooting, ball handling, etc.

2.) Particiption in off season tournaments - There are usually at least three different tournaments we try to enter as a team during the offseason.

3.) Team camps - we would really love to particpate in a team camp during the summer of 2009.

4.) Camp counselors - work on your game and earn school service hours by helping out with our elementary camps.

Coach Steve Kirk also runs the Dynasty basketball club, any athlete who hopes to play collegiately is strongly encouraged to try out for this team as they travel to several different national tournaments. Collegiate coaches do not generally have time to see athletes play during the regular season as they are busy with their own teams which means this is a very important time for serious basketball athletes. If you are interested in playing for Dynasty please contact Coach Steve!

Preseason:

The preseason usually begins in late September following an eight week dead time that begins in August. Participation in preseason activities is non mandatory. Preseason workouts are aimed at getting athletes in shape for the upcoming season. There are two parts to the preseason, the first part is aimed at helping athletes improve individual skills and conditioning. The second part begins three weeks prior to the official start of the season and is the beginning of what is called conditioning time. This period of time is limited to conditioning and non instructional playing (open gym).
