Practices and clinics held at LHS. (click here for map)
LBC Program goals:
1.) Promote the mission and ministry of Christ through the game of basketball.
How do we do this? We provide an evironment that practices(to the best of our ability!) the Christian principles of "Love God first and love your neighbor as yourself!" We encourage our athletes to use the skills God has given them by working hard and developing self discipline. We teach that it is ok to mess up, as long as you keep working hard to improve. We try to teach and practice forgiveness! We teach that being successful is not about trophies, money, wins/losses, scholarships. While these things are sometimes important, being successful is truly about being satisfied that we have done the best we can, with what we have, in any situation.
2.) Provide an environment in which anybody regardless of skill level can work on and improve their basketball skills.
How do we do this? We offer free clinics for skill development almost every Saturday. We turn no one away and make no cuts.
3.) Keep the financial commitment to a minimum.
How do we do this? In a day and age where the costs of youth sports are skyrocketing, we are committed to providing a program in which anyone can participate regardless of income. (see article DeseretNews June 23, 2008) We offer our skill development clinics free of charge as well as our Lil' Lynx League. We do not charge membership fees, uniform fees, or equipment fees. We charge on a per tournament basis with our comp team. Financial aid discounts are available for our summer basketball camps. We are extremely grateful to those people who donate to our program and help make this a reality!
4.) Provide a family friendly program that does not result in athlete or parental burnout.
How do we do this? We do not put high pressure on kids if they have to miss practices or games. Instead we operate on a "come as you can" basis. If other family activities take precedence we support those decisions rather than guilt tripping or putting undue pressure on parents or kids. We encourage kids to work on skills in other sports as well as participate in other activities. Our goal is to develop diversified athletes for a lifetime!
5.) Develop skilled basketball players.
How do we do this? Through skilled and patient coaches (all of our coaches are ASEP certified as well as certified in CPR and basic first aid) who have years of experience in kinesthetics and biomechanics as well as basketball. We stress a developmental progression that emphasizes foot work and hand-eye coordination in early and beginner levels, then progresses to the basic skills and more advanced skills. (see detailed developmental plans / evaluations in the forms section)

Saturday Clinics: Basketball clinics are offered most Saturdays of the year. These clinics stress fundamentals and individual development in the areas of ball handling, shooting, offensive / defensive footwork, and rebounding. They are open to any students (boys and girls / 1st - 8th grade) wishing to improve their skills and typically run from 10 am until noon. Please check the calendar for more specific dates and times.
cost: free
Lil' Lynx: The Lil' Lynx is a program for youngsters (grades 1 - 3) getting involved in basketball for the first time. The program began last year and ran during the month of February. The goals of the Lil' Lynx are to introduce the game of basketball in a fun way that stresses the importance of team work. Participants attend an instructional session followed by informal games. The rules for the games include a two dribble limit in order to promote teamwork and better spacing, as well as no pressing, no fouling out, and equal participation. All participants receive a T-shirt and certificate of achievement.
cost: free
LBC comp teams: We have begun to field a comp team in the Utah AAU, but would love to have some more participation. The comp team is for those athletes looking for a higher level of competition and are committed to working hard. Comp teams do not guarantee equal playing time. In an effort to keep the costs of participation down the LBC charges on a per tournament basis, AAU cards are required however. As of now we have one team of 7th and 8th graders, if you are interested in participating, please contact Coach Schrader. We would like to begin adding other teams, but will not do so until we have 8 -12 participants.
costs: AAU card $14.00 (click here to purchase AAU card online)
3 or 4 game tournaments $25.00
7 game leagues $50.00
Basketball camps: This year's basketball camp will run from Monday, July 13 - Friday, July 17. The times will be 9 am - 2 pm. Lunch will be provided. (click here for a link to camp brochure)
