Academics at LHS

Student / Athletes:

At LHS we firmly believe that our primary responsibility in regards to education is the spiritual and academic development of our students. We also believe in stong athletic programs, but not at the expense of academics. As a coach, one of the first questions I am always asked by colleges recruiting our players is "How are their grades?" Scholarships, academic or athletic, are not given to students who neglect the academic portion of their education. At LHS we have two different levels of academic eligiblity, the state requirement as well as our own more stringent standard.

State eligiblity - the state eligibility standard is that a student has to maintain a 2.0 GPA every quarter in order to be eligible the succeeding quarter. If a student falls below that standard, they will not be eligible to participate for the next quarter.

LHS eligibility - the LHS eligibility standards are based on a two week evaluation cycle. Every two weeks students are evaluated based on passing or failing a class, turning in at least 2/3 of their assignments, and behavior. If a student receives a check in a class for failing in any one of those conditions they go on what is called eligibility check. There are three different levels of eligibility check, the first being probation. If a student continues on a eligibility check during the next two week cycle, they become ineligible for games, but may still practice, if they continue to fall into eligibility check for the third cycle in a row, they become ineligible for both games and practices until they take themselves off.
